Blood purification for perioperative management of cardiac surgery

This review provides an up-to-date summary of four roles of blood purification or RRT in perioperative management of cardiac surgery as follows: (I) simplified intermittent hemodialysis (HD) in the patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) dependent on HD; (II) continuous or intermittent RTT for postoperative AKI; (III) aggressive dilution ultrafiltration (DUF) during CPB; and (IV) continuous RTT after surgery for the patients with fluid overload and pulmonary edema, even if urine output is secured.

CircRNA as an emerging role in acute myocardial infarction: a literature review

CircRNA shows a covalent closed loop structure and is not easy to be degraded by nucleic acid exonuclease. CircRNA is highly expressed in human heart with high stability and specificity, and plays a regulatory role mainly by acting as a miRNA sponge and interacting with RNA-binding proteins. Many studies have confirmed that circRNA can be used as a biomarker of AMI and participate in the pathophysiological process of AMI. Overexpression or knockout of a specific circRNA is Beneficial or harmful to heart repair. Most importantly, it can be considered as a biomarker and therapeutic target for AMI.

The relationship between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, myeloperoxidase, interleukin-2 and coronary slow flow phenomenon

The ROC curve revealed when an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.8726, using cutoff value of NLR ≥2.47 to predict CSF with sensitivity of 82% and specificity of 78%. The AUC value of IL-2 was 0.8514 with 92% sensitivity and 68% specificity at cutoff value above 3.345 pg/mL. The MPO was found to have AUC value of 0.8678 with an optimal cutoff value ≥46.74 ng/mL, the sensitivity and the specificity was 82% and 78% respectively.

COVID-19 and the cardiovascular system: a systematic review of the clinical trial landscape

A search on ClinicalTrials.gov produced a variety of studies that investigate relationships between COVID-19 and the CV system. The search identified the main areas with ongoing research that has the ability to resolve controversies regarding current management of patients with COVID-19 including the ideal thromboprophylaxis regimen; arrhythmogenic potential of patients with COVID-19 and appropriate monitoring of these patients and long term morbidity related to COVID-19 and the CV system. The key finding of this analysis is that the majority of the ongoing studies are observational in nature and not randomized controlled trials.
